Shell to acquire ARC Resources for 22 billion CAD
Shell is nearing the completion of its acquisition of Canadian firm ARC Resources Ltd. for 22 billion Canadian dollars. The deal has cleared major regulatory hurdles, receiving approval from the Government of Canada under the Investment Canada Act, as well as clearance from Canadian competition authorities and U.S. regulators under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act.
The transaction is expected to close around September 2, 2026. This acquisition is part of a strategic shift for Shell to strengthen its upstream portfolio in exploration and production. To fund this expansion, Shell is pursuing divestments in other areas, including the potential sale of its polymer project in Pennsylvania, USA, and its European onshore renewable energy business.
