Shell to sell Nigeria gas business to Vaaris Energy
Shell Petroleum B.V. has signed an agreement to sell its full interest in the Shell Nigeria Gas Group to Vaaris Energy Limited, a Nigerian energy company. The transaction marks Shell’s exit from piped gas distribution within Nigeria as the company refocuses its investments on strategic deepwater and integrated gas positions, including its interest in Nigeria LNG.
The Shell Nigeria Gas business, established in 1998, operates approximately 170 kilometres of pipeline infrastructure across Ogun, Abia, and Rivers states. It currently serves more than 130 industrial and commercial customers. The sale includes Shell Nigeria Gas Holding B.V., which holds nearly all shares in the operating business, Shell Nigeria Gas Limited.
Vaaris Energy Limited is a Nigerian firm with interests across the oil and gas value chain. The deal is subject to regulatory conditions and approvals. Until the transaction is completed, Shell Nigeria Gas Group will continue to operate as usual under Shell ownership.
