Shelley Fabares, star of ‘The Donna Reed Show’ and ‘Coach’, dies at 82
Actress and singer Shelley Fabares has died in Los Angeles at the age of 82. Her family confirmed she passed away on Saturday, August 22, following a brief illness, surrounded by loved ones.
Fabares enjoyed a prolific career spanning several decades. She rose to fame as Mary Stone on ‘The Donna Reed Show’ from 1958 to 1965 and later earned two Primetime Emmy nominations for her role as Christine Armstrong on the sitcom ‘Coach’. Her film career included starring alongside Elvis Presley in three 1960s movies: ‘Girl Happy’, ‘Spinout’, and ‘Clambake’.
In addition to her acting work, Fabares was a successful recording artist. Her 1962 single ‘Johnny Angel’ reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. She was also known for her voice work, notably portraying Martha Kent in various Superman animated projects.
She was married to actor Mike Farrell from 1984 until her death. Her family described her as a “source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort” who made a lasting impact on those around her.
