Shelley Fabares, star of ‘The Donna Reed Show’ and ‘Coach’, dies at 82

Actress Shelley Fabares has died at the age of 82. Her family confirmed to various outlets that the cause of death was pneumonia. She passed away on August 22 in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones.

Fabares had a prolific career spanning television, film, and music. She rose to fame as a teenager playing Mary Stone on ‘The Donna Reed Show’ and later earned two Emmy nominations for her role as Christine Armstrong on the ABC sitcom ‘Coach’. Her film credits include appearing in three movies alongside Elvis Presley: ‘Girl Happy’, ‘Spinout’, and ‘Clambake’. In 1962, she reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with her single ‘Johnny Angel’.

Throughout her life, Fabares faced significant health challenges, including a diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis which led to a liver transplant in 2000. She is survived by her husband, actor Mike Farrell, and two stepchildren.
