Shelley Sim retains SD73 trustee seat via drawing of lots

Incumbent School District No. 73 (SD73) trustee Shelley Sim has retained her position for Area 2 – North Thompson following a drawing of lots. The decision came after a judicial recount confirmed a tie between Sim and challenger Lee Onslow.

Initial preliminary results from the October 17 general local election suggested Sim had won by three votes. However, the official count conducted on October 20 declared the race a tie. Following a judicial recount on October 28, the tie was upheld. Under section 151 of the Local Government Act and the Board’s Election Bylaw, a presiding judge used a drawing of lots to determine the winner, resulting in Sim being declared the trustee.

This upcoming term will be Sim’s fourth as a school board trustee. Additionally, Sim was elected mayor of the District of Clearwater in the same October 17 elections.
