Shelly Headen loses Democratic support over controversial social media posts

The North Carolina House Democratic Caucus and several other Democratic organizations have withdrawn support from Shelly Headen, the nominee for North Carolina House District 62. The decision follows the resurfacing of several controversial social media posts attributed to Headen.

Reported posts include a comment suggesting that an attack on U.S. soil, specifically in Alabama or Louisiana, was the country’s ‘only hope.’ Other posts included a caption for a photo taken at the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany, where Headen appeared in front of crematorium ovens with the text, ‘This is where Trump supporters belong.’

Additional resurfaced content includes a post expressing excitement for ‘MAGAs to die off’ and comments comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler. A spokesperson for the North Carolina House Democratic Caucus stated that the comments were ‘unacceptable and do not reflect the values we expect of our candidates.’ Headen is currently running against Republican Representative John Blust.
