Shen Po-yang concludes strategic Tokyo visit to bolster Taiwan-Japan ties

Shen Po-yang, a Democratic Progressive Party legislator and candidate for Taipei Mayor, has concluded a three-day strategic visit to Tokyo. The trip focused on strengthening Taiwan-Japan ties through various channels, including political, academic, and industrial sectors.

During his visit, Shen engaged in dialogues with Japanese Diet members and discussed critical issues such as urban resilience, civil defense, undersea cables, and talent exchange. He emphasized that city-level diplomacy is a vital component of national security, particularly in protecting urban infrastructure and data from external threats. Shen also sought to learn from Tokyo's governance models regarding transportation safety and AI implementation to inform his potential policies for Taipei.

In addition to strategic discussions, Shen met with Taiwanese youth living in Japan to discuss urban renewal and the return of talent to Taiwan. He expressed a desire to establish a continuous, multi-sectoral cooperation network between Taipei and Japanese cities. Regarding domestic politics, Shen noted that he intends to work across party lines on non-partisan issues, such as child protection, following recent interactions with members of the opposition party.
