Shen Po-yang and Chiang Wan-an clash over Taipei child abuse policies

The Taipei mayoral race has intensified as candidates and political figures exchange sharp criticisms regarding child abuse protections and administrative competence. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Shen Po-yang has emphasized the need for systemic reforms to address rising child abuse cases in Taipei, noting that recent incidents suggest a failure in current institutional safeguards.

During a recent event, Shen approached incumbent Mayor Chiang Wan-an to urge the city government to address these systemic issues. Chiang responded by stating that the city has already provided explanations for improper treatment cases, suggesting instead that the central government should address issues like the toxic oil scandal.

Political tensions have escalated with high-profile attacks. Kuomintang (KMT) Councilor Yang Chih-tou labeled Shen a ‘useless legislator’ and a ‘salary thief,’ accusing him of focusing on election campaigning rather than addressing national crises. Meanwhile, Minister Chen Shih-chung criticized Chiang’s appearance and administration, claiming Taipei is left with nothing but child abuse and ineffective oversight.

In response to these attacks, the Taipei City Government criticized the DPP for using personal insults and targeting minors in political discourse, urging officials to focus on substantive issues like the toxic oil investigation.
