Shen Po-yang proposes child abuse ordinances for Taipei
Democratic Progressive Party Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang has addressed key policy areas including child abuse prevention and childcare support. Shen proposed that Taipei City should establish specific ordinances to combat child abuse, which has seen frequent reports in recent years. His strategy involves identifying risk factors through data and utilizing AI or a centralized service similar to the 1999 hotline to detect warning signs. He also emphasized the importance of video surveillance to provide evidence and protect all parties involved in disputes.
Regarding childcare, Shen highlighted the isolation felt by parents and advocated for integrated services. His proposals include providing psychological counseling, temporary childcare, and easier access to parental leave. He suggested creating a single window for all matters related to children aged 0 to 18 to reduce administrative pressure on families. If forced to prioritize a single policy, Shen stated he would focus on addressing child abuse.
Separately, writer Liu Ke-xiang reflected on his long-standing relationship with Shen, which began over 20 years ago when Shen was a 17-year-old student in a nature walking program led by Liu. Shen, who was a subject in Liu’s 2003 book ‘The Boy’s Green Book’, only recently learned of his inclusion in the work after announcing his mayoral candidacy. Liu noted that Shen’s honest observations as a youth left a lasting impression and expressed interest in his political future.
