Shenandoah Telecommunications nears end of fiber build

Shenandoah Telecommunications (Shentel) is approaching the conclusion of a multiyear fiber construction program. Chief Financial Officer Jim Volk stated that the company expects to return to positive free cash flow next year as capital spending decreases.

The company’s Glo Fiber residential service grew 33% year-over-year in the second quarter, now representing approximately 28% of total revenue. Commercial fiber accounts for about 23% of revenue. Shentel has established roughly 500,000 greenfield fiber passings in rural markets and expects to reach 500,000 homes passed by the end of the year.

Separately, the company completed its 2026 Shentel Cares initiatives. Through the Summer Backpack Program and Shentel Caring Days, employee donations, the Shentel Foundation, and matching support from CoBank generated $28,000 for seven local organizations to combat food insecurity. Employees also contributed 330 volunteer hours to community service projects.
