Shenyang launches new rowing and hutong revitalization indices

The Xinhua Indices Institute has launched two new reports in Shenyang, China, focused on rowing sport development and hutong revitalization. The reports were released during the 2026 China (Shenyang) Exchange on Integrated Development of Culture, Tourism, Sports and Commerce.

The indices aim to create a benchmark for integrating culture, tourism, sports, and commerce. The rowing development index represents an “outward-oriented sports event economy” intended to activate waterfront spaces, while the hutong revitalization index focuses on the “inward-oriented revitalization of existing urban assets” through micro-renewal projects.

Shenyang is working toward becoming both a “rowing capital” and a “famous historical and cultural city.” Recent efforts include hosting the Asian Rowing U19&U23 Championships and renovating 67 old hutongs in the Fangcheng area.
