Shenzhen Bingshan Hospital doctors deliver undetected twins

Medical staff at Shenzhen Bingshan Hospital, affiliated with South China University of Technology, successfully delivered twins after the mother was unaware of the second pregnancy.

The patient was rushed to the hospital in advanced labor with her cervix already nine centimeters dilated. A baby girl was successfully delivered at 9:40 AM. However, five minutes later, a midwife noticed signs that another fetus remained in the uterus.

Medical examinations confirmed the presence of a second baby in a breech position, which posed a significant risk of entrapment during vaginal delivery. Because the mother had not undergone prenatal screenings or ultrasounds during her pregnancy, the twins had gone undetected.

A multi-disciplinary emergency team involving obstetrics, anesthesia, operating room, and neonatal specialists was activated. Following a coordinated effort, a baby boy was safely delivered via breech extraction under general anesthesia at 10:19 AM. Both infants and the mother are reported to be in stable condition.
