Shenzhen Natural History Museum opens with river delta design

The Shenzhen Natural History Museum has officially opened in the Pingshan district of Shenzhen. The 3.5 billion yuan (approximately $517–$518 million USD) facility spans 42,000 square meters and was designed to integrate with the local landscape.

Developed by a consortium including Danish firm 3XN, Hong Kong-based B+H Architects, and local firm Zhubo Design, the building utilizes a river delta motif. The organic, curvilinear structure is designed to mimic surrounding hills and water systems, including Yanzi Lake and the Dunzi wetland. The design features a massive green rooftop park spanning over 600 meters that visitors can access via sloping sides.

The museum's interior consists of five cone-shaped volumes and cave-like passages containing eight distinct halls. The exhibits cover 4.6 billion years of history and house over 7,400 authentic specimens, ranging from cosmic origins and meteorites to dinosaur fossils and wild animal displays.
