Shenzhen Port reaches 30 million TEU milestone

Shenzhen Port has surpassed 30 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in container throughput this year, reaching the milestone three weeks faster than in 2025. Transport authorities noted that trade with APEC member economies drives this growth, accounting for more than 50 percent of the port’s total foreign trade volume.

As of October 17, throughput reached 30.10 million TEU, representing a 7.7 percent increase compared to the previous year. The port has expanded its global shipping routes, operating over 270 international container liner routes and more than 30 regular cross-border e-commerce sea express services. Additionally, maritime transport of vehicles and automotive kits rose by 40.7 percent during the first nine months of the year.

Growth is supported by smart port infrastructure, including the Yantian East Terminal, which utilizes automated quay cranes capable of handling ultra-large container vessels. The Mawan Smart Port also serves as a key component of the city’s upgraded maritime operations.
