Shenzhou-23 crew conducts science and health checks in orbit
The Shenzhou-23 crew has completed nearly four months aboard the Tiangong Space Station, according to a weekly update from the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).
Astronauts Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan, and Lai Ka-ying have been conducting various scientific experiments, including research into the spatial interaction between viruses and immune metabolism to aid long-term in-orbit health. The crew also replaced the second batch of in-orbit test samples for the debris migration imaging experiment.
To maintain the station and their own health, the crew performed microbial sampling of the water dispenser, conducted personal noise exposure measurements, and carried out routine cabin maintenance. Health monitoring included bone density tests, mass measurements, and ultrasound examinations of the heart, abdomen, and blood vessels. The astronauts continue to use bone loss countermeasure devices to mitigate the effects of weightlessness.
