Shepherd Cinzia Angiolini Fends Off Wolves in Zeri, Italy

In the Lunigiana region of Tuscany, shepherd Cinzia Angiolini was attacked by two wolves while moving her flock near Bocci in the municipality of Zeri. The wolves lunged at the herd, killing two sheep and injuring a third. Angiolini defended herself with a stick and stones, and one wolf turned toward her before she fell. Four of her Maremma dogs arrived and chased the wolves away, preventing further damage. She required emergency medical care after the encounter.

The episode follows recent wolf-related incidents in the area, including a foal killed by a pack in Arena Metato and reports from Coldiretti Toscana of increasing wolf and hybrid presence that threaten livestock and public safety. Angiolini also noted that several sheep have gone missing from pastures in recent weeks.
