Christian Association of Nigeria honors leaders at 50th anniversary

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) celebrated its 50th anniversary with a golden jubilee thanksgiving and award ceremony in Abuja. During the event, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh presented several high-profile awards to Nigerian leaders.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori received the Christian Icon Award for his commitment to public service, integrity, and ethical leadership. Oborevwori emphasized the importance of distinguishing between political responsibilities and religious obligations, stating that politics should not undermine one's commitment to God.

Other notable recipients included First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who received the Christian Icon Award, and former leaders including General Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Yemi Osinbajo, who were honored with the Pillar of Faith Award. Additionally, awards were presented to Senator George Akume, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Dr. Benjamin Kalu, and Governors Monday Okpebholo and Seyi Makinde.

In his address, Archbishop Okoh urged the Church to maintain a prophetic voice, calling on Christians to remain vigilant regarding issues of justice, democracy, religious freedom, and the welfare of vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons and victims of insecurity.
