FC St. Gallen defeats Sheriff Tiraspol 3-1 in Conference League

FC St. Gallen secured a significant 3-1 away victory against Sheriff Tiraspol in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round. Goals for the Swiss side were scored by Andrin Hunziker in the 63rd minute, Leon Frokaj in the 70th minute, and Christian Witzig in stoppage time.

Sheriff Tiraspol's lone goal was scored by Juanca Pineda in the 89th minute. The result puts St. Gallen in a strong position for the return leg, which is scheduled for August 13 at the Sitterstadion in Switzerland.

The loss leaves Moldova at risk of having no representatives left in European competitions, as Petrocub, Zimbru, and Milsami have already been eliminated. If Sheriff fails to overturn the deficit, they will also exit the tournament.
