Sherpur: Jubo Dal leader accused of extortion and vandalism

A legal case has been filed in Sherpur against Tarikul Islam Samrat, a senior joint convener of the municipal Jubo Dal, and approximately 50 to 60 unidentified individuals. The complaint alleges that the group attacked and vandalized ‘Messer Sayem Traders’ and ‘Sayem Travels and Tours’ in the Falpotti area.

The complainant, Abdullah Al Rafat, alleges that the group demanded 10 million BDT in extortion money and threatened to seize the business premises if the demand was not met. The report claims that during the attack, furniture was destroyed and 110,000 BDT in cash was taken.

Tarikul Islam Samrat has denied the allegations, claiming the dispute is related to a family land issue and that he is being harassed through false accusations.
