Sherri Shepherd debuts as first female Genie in Broadway's Aladdin

Emmy-winning actress and comedian Sherri Shepherd has made her Broadway debut as the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin. Her performance marks the first time a woman has portrayed the iconic character in the hit musical.

Shepherd’s limited engagement began on October 16, 2026, and is scheduled to run through January 3, 2027. Following her initial weekend performances, she is expected to perform eight shows per week starting October 20.

The production, which has been running at the New Amsterdam Theatre since 2014, is currently one of Broadway’s longest-running shows. Shepherd succeeds Caleb A. Barnett, who will serve as the Genie standby during her tenure.
