Sheryl Lee Ralph calls ‘Abbott Elementary’ the ‘only real comedy’ at 2026 Emmys

During a red carpet interview at the 2026 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph stated that ‘Abbott Elementary’ is the ‘only real comedy’ nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Ralph, who plays Barbara Howard on the ABC series, made the remarks while discussing the show’s nomination for best cast. The series is competing against several other programs, including ‘The Bear’, ‘Hacks’, ‘Only Murders in the Building’, and ‘Shrinking’.

While Ralph was not nominated for a supporting actress award this year, her co-stars and creator Quinta Brunson received multiple nominations. ‘Abbott Elementary’ has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series every year since its 2021 debut, though it has yet to win the top prize.
