Shetland Arts implements new policy for generative AI use
Shetland Arts has implemented a new policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence to support creative content, marketing, and administrative tasks. The policy, presented to the trust’s board in June, requires that all AI-generated outputs be reviewed and approved by a staff member before publication.
Chief Executive Graeme Howell stated that the policy was established to address legitimate concerns within the creative sector. The guidelines aim to ensure human oversight, transparency, and respect for copyright, maintaining the principle that the human artist or curator remains the primary creative agent. The organization intends to use AI in a way that aligns with its values of integrity and creativity while providing safeguards for responsible use.
