Shetland Islands Council rolls out new bus timetables from August 2026

ZetTrans, the transport partnership for the Shetland Islands, announced that revised bus timetables will take effect on Monday 17 August 2026. The update adds evening and weekend services, introduces Sunday routes on Services 9 and 23, and provides a bookable over‑land service for the North Isles on Sundays. Several routes have been reconfigured, including Service 19 to Vidlin, and connections to health centres on Fetlar, Vidlin and Nesting have been improved. The changes also enhance links to the Holmsgarth ferry terminal and modify Services 6 and 7.

The timetable revisions follow a public consultation carried out in late 2024, with feedback from passengers, communities and stakeholders. ZetTrans chairwoman Moraig Lyall, also chair of the Shetland Islands Council’s Environment & Transport Committee, said the changes represent “one of the most significant improvements to Shetland’s bus network in recent years.” Full details will be published on the ZetTrans website, the Shetland Travel App and the Traveline Scotland journey planner, with paper copies available locally.
