Shetland organizations report financial updates and community concerns

The Shetland Amenity Trust reported a stable financial position during its annual general meeting, noting that total income rose to £3.7 million for the 2025/26 period. While the trust recorded a year-end deficit of approximately £33,000, officials described the result as nearly breaking even and highlighted that the organization no longer carries an overdraft. The trust saw 65,000 visitors across its various sites, including the Lerwick museum and Sumburgh Head Lighthouse.

In a separate community matter, the Save Scalloway Pool Action Group has expressed formal disappointment regarding the Shetland Islands Council’s handling of the Scalloway Swimming Pool closure. The group criticized the chief executive’s approach to meetings with local trusts, alleging a lack of fairness and respect toward community members fighting to keep the facility open. The group maintains that the council has failed to adequately explore sustainable long-term options for the pool's operation.
