Shetland Recreational Trust seeks new uses for Scalloway Pool
The Shetland Recreational Trust (SRT) is seeking proposals from individuals, community groups, and interested parties regarding the future use of the Scalloway Pool building. The trust has stated that continuing the facility as a public swimming pool within its current network is ‘not an option.’
The pool closed in early 2026 following a decision aimed at improving the financial sustainability of the SRT. While a ‘Save Scalloway Pool’ campaign has been active since the closure, the trust has maintained the mothballed building to preserve its condition while seeking alternative operating models or new owners.
Trustees are looking to identify a new use or initiate a transfer by early 2027. They noted that any decision must comply with Scottish charity law, prioritizing the best outcome for the charity and its beneficiaries rather than strictly seeking the highest financial value. The trust expressed a preference for finding a community-focused use rather than placing the property on the open market as a last resort.
