Shevrin Jones leads Florida's 24th Congressional District Democratic primary

Equality Florida Action, Inc. announced on July 29 that it endorses State Senator Shevrin Jones in the Democratic primary for Florida’s 24th Congressional District, noting that his election would make him the state’s first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress. The endorsement highlighted Jones’s record on criminal‑justice reform, LGBTQ+ rights, immigrant protection, and reproductive justice.

A poll conducted July 24‑28 by National Victory Strategies surveyed 300 likely Democratic primary voters and found Jones ahead with 35% support, rising to 38% when the field was narrowed to the three leading candidates. He leads former Miami‑Dade Commissioner Oliver Gilbert (28%) and former U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek (9%). Jones enjoys broad backing across age, gender, and racial groups, including 100% of Gen‑Z respondents, while lagging slightly among Hispanic voters. The race remains competitive with about 23% of voters still undecided less than three weeks before the August 18 primary.
