Sheyla Gutiérrez faces uncertain future after Movistar contract ends
Spanish professional cyclist Sheyla Gutiérrez has announced that she will not be continuing with the Movistar Team after her current contract expires at the end of 2026. While she has not formally retired, the 32-year-old expressed that her professional career could be coming to an end because she has not secured a contract for 2027.
Gutiérrez shared her situation on social media, stating, “This is over. Even though I don’t want it to be.” She noted that she does not blame any specific person or entity for the lack of a contract, describing it as “part of the game.”
The rider has faced a series of significant setbacks in recent years, including a serious accident in 2021 and a recent broken arm sustained during training this summer. She indicated that she felt her form was returning prior to the arm injury, but the lack of a professional opportunity for the upcoming season has created significant uncertainty regarding her future in the sport.
