Shiba Inu behavior: Understanding why dogs stop during walks
A viral social media post featuring a Shiba Inu named Mugi has gained significant attention after a video showed the dog refusing to walk and sitting down while being led by a two-year-old child. The owner noted that Mugi often exhibits this “Kyohi Shiba” (refusal Shiba) behavior when she feels she has walked enough.
Veterinarians explain that when dogs suddenly stop during walks, it is not always a matter of stubbornness or disobedience. Physical issues such as pain, fatigue, or heat exhaustion should be ruled out first. If the dog is healthy, the behavior may stem from a desire to focus on specific scents or surroundings, or from sensory overload where the dog becomes overwhelmed by processing multiple environmental stimuli like sounds, people, or vehicles.
