Shift Up CTO addresses AI music video controversy for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain

Shift Up CTO DongKi Lee has addressed the controversy surrounding an AI-generated music video for the upcoming title ‘Stellar Blade: Blood Rain’. The video, which featured the character Evie, drew significant backlash from fans who criticized the use of AI in promotional materials and expressed concerns regarding the quality and the replacement of human artistry.

In an interview with TheGamer, Lee clarified that the AI was used to render and present the character based on existing designs and craftsmanship created by the company’s artists over the course of a year, rather than creating the character from scratch. He explained that the video was intended as an experimental way to showcase the beauty and world-view of the game.

Moving forward, Lee stated that the company intends to maintain a clear distinction between official game content and experimental content. He emphasized that Shift Up views AI as a tool to support the creativity and skills of developers, with the ultimate goal of producing high-quality games.
