Shiga Prefectural College of Technology begins construction in Yasu

Construction has officially begun on the Shiga Prefectural College of Technology in Yasu, Shiga Prefecture. The project aims to establish the first technical college in a region where manufacturing accounts for 41.8% of the gross prefectural product.

The new campus will span approximately 5 hectares with a total floor area of about 18,500 square meters. Scheduled to open in April 2028, the institution will accommodate roughly 600 students across four specialized fields: Information, Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical, and Construction/Environment.

A key feature of the curriculum is the integration of information technology across all disciplines, ensuring students are proficient in AI, IoT, and data analysis alongside traditional engineering. The project involves significant collaboration with the local industry, with nearly 300 companies participating in a co-creation forum to support talent development and employment pipelines.
