Shiite delegation meets with Vatican Secretary of State
A four-member Lebanese Shiite delegation met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, on September 9. The delegation included Professor Wajih Qanso, journalist Jad al-Akhwi, journalist Ali al-Amin, and Islamic thinker Muhammad Ali al-Hajj al-Amili.
The meeting, held under the theme ‘Lebanese Shiites in Rome and the Vatican’, focused on communicating the identity of the Shiite community in Lebanon. The delegation emphasized that the Shiite sect is larger than the existing ‘Shiite duo’ and sought to clarify its identity beyond common misconceptions.
This diplomatic engagement occurs amidst ongoing military operations and political instability in southern Lebanon.
