Shikabala calls for Hossam Hassan to resign as Egypt national team coach
Former Zamalek star Mahmoud Abdel Razek, known as Shikabala, has publicly called for Hossam Hassan to resign from his position as the head coach of the Egypt national football team. Speaking on the program ‘El Kora Ma’a Fayeq’, Shikabala stated that the leadership of the national team requires calm, prestige, and a strong personality, free from controversy and noise.
Shikabala emphasized that the current level of surrounding commotion diminishes the authority a manager should hold among players. He noted that his advice comes from a place of affection for Hassan, rather than being strictly related to footballing matters.
The call for resignation comes as the Egyptian national team prepares for two upcoming matches against Malawi in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The first leg is scheduled for November 13 at Cairo International Stadium, followed by a second leg on November 17 at Bingu International Stadium in Malawi.
Hossam Hassan and his brother Ibrahim Hassan are expected to be absent from both matches due to a FIFA suspension resulting from an incident involving an attack on officiating during the 2026 World Cup.
