Shiki Theatre Company ticket reseller arrested in Kawasaki
A 35-year-old woman residing in Kawasaki has been arrested by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police for violating the Ticket Resale Prohibition Act. The suspect is accused of illegally reselling four tickets for Shiki Theatre Company musical performances, including ‘Ghost & Lady’ in Osaka, on resale websites between November and December last year. The tickets, originally priced at approximately 51,000 yen, were sold for 80,000 yen.
In response to the incident, Shiki Company issued a statement expressing that it finds the matter ‘extremely regrettable.’ The company announced it will strengthen measures against resellers and those listing tickets on unauthorized websites, while cooperating fully with police investigations. Shiki Company also emphasized that entry will be denied to anyone using tickets obtained through non-official channels and urged the public to purchase tickets only through authorized methods and prices.
Under the 2019 law, illegal resale of designated performance tickets can result in up to one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to 1 million yen, or both.
