Shilin hosts massive parade of mechanical elephants for Taipei Arts Festival
The Taipei Arts Festival has launched its outdoor performances with ‘The Elephants are Coming...’, a production by the French street art troupe Compagnie Oposito. The show features three massive mechanical elephants, measuring 4.5 meters in height and 8 meters in length, accompanied by musicians and performers.
The inaugural parade took place in the Shilin district, following an 800-meter route from the Shin Kong Life Education Center along Jihé Road to the Taipei Performing Arts Center. The event drew an estimated 100,000 spectators, turning the local streets into an immersive theater space.
Due to the massive crowds, authorities have announced increased police presence to manage traffic and pedestrian flow for the scheduled second performance. Local transportation, including certain bus stops and YouBike stations, has faced temporary restrictions during the event hours.
