Shillong officials targeted by mocking posters amid police extortion allegations
Mocking posters targeting Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem were discovered on walls and fences across Shillong. The posters, which appeared following a viral AI-generated video, accused the officials of financial impropriety and followed allegations by the Khasi Students Union (KSU) regarding police extortion of truckers at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai.
In response to the KSU allegations, police have suspended four officers and transferred another following an inquiry into the reported collection of money from trucks during checkpoints.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has criticized the use of posters to air grievances, stating that allegations of wrongdoing should be pursued through formal legal channels, such as filing an FIR, rather than through public displays. The identity of those responsible for the posters remains unknown.
