Shillong police investigate petrol bomb attacks during Durga Puja

Police in Shillong are investigating a series of petrol bomb attacks that occurred during the Durga Puja festive period. Incidents were reported at Kench’s Trace, Keating Road, and Laitumkhrah, as well as attempted arson near prayer pandals in Mawbah and Laban.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that no injuries or property damage were reported in the three specific incidents mentioned. While no group has claimed responsibility, authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Police have increased security measures, including intensified patrolling and the establishment of checkpoints throughout the city.

The attacks have raised questions regarding urban security infrastructure, specifically the effectiveness of the Shillong Smart City project and its integrated surveillance systems in preventing such incidents.
