Deion Sanders subpoenaed for Shilo Sanders' bankruptcy trial
Deion Sanders, head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, has been subpoenaed to testify in the upcoming bankruptcy trial of his son, Shilo Sanders. The trial is scheduled to begin on August 31 and is expected to run through September 4.
The legal proceedings center on whether Shilo’s bankruptcy can discharge an $11.89 million debt resulting from a 2015 lawsuit. The judgment was awarded to John Darjean, a former security guard, following a default ruling after Shilo did not appear to defend himself. The case hinges on whether the alleged injuries inflicted on Darjean during a dispute over a phone were “willful and malicious.”
Judge Michael E. Romero noted a potential scheduling conflict, as the trial coincides with the Colorado Buffaloes' season opener against Georgia Tech on September 3. While the judge stated he has no ties to the university, he acknowledged the timing as a potential issue. Deion Sanders may file a motion to quash the subpoena to avoid the conflict.
