Shilou Hendrix sentenced after Minnesota park dispute

A jury in Rochester, Minnesota delivered a split verdict in the case of 37‑year‑old Shiloh Hendrix. She was acquitted of a misdemeanor charge related to her interaction with an eight‑year‑old Somali boy at Roy Sutherland Playground, but was convicted of disorderly conduct toward an adult bystander who filmed her. Judge Christa M. Daily sentenced Hendrix to a $1,000 fine, 200 hours of community service, supervised probation and a stayed 90‑day jail term that could be activated for a probation violation.

The incident, captured on video by Sharmake Omar, spread widely online, prompting a public outcry and a fundraising effort that raised over $850,000 for Hendrix. Her attorney denounced the verdict as “sad, pathetic, and sick,” criticizing the length of the trial and the handling of the evidence.
