Shilp Samagam Mela showcases traditional handicrafts in Guwahati

The Shilp Samagam Mela is currently underway in Guwahati, drawing thousands of visitors to explore India’s diverse heritage of traditional handicrafts and handloom products. Running from October 21 to October 28, the event brings together 75 artisans, including 31 women, who are displaying approximately 40 varieties of products.

A senior official from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment stated that the mela provides a platform for artisans from across India, including the North-eastern states, to exhibit and sell their work directly to consumers. The initiative aims to strengthen market access, encourage entrepreneurship, and improve livelihood opportunities for participants.

A primary focus of the event is the promotion of BHARAT-TULIP (Traditional Artisans' Upliftment Livelihood Programme), an initiative designed to facilitate the marketing of artisan-made products.
