Shilpa Rao performance cut short at Mumbai music festival

Singer Shilpa Rao’s performance at the 10th anniversary of the Bollywood Music Project (BMP) in Mumbai was abruptly interrupted on October 24. Reports indicate that her microphone and stage lights were switched off mid-set due to production delays and venue curfew regulations. As Rao attempted to address the audience and bid farewell, the next performer, Kutle Khan, began his set, effectively cutting her closing remarks short.

Following the incident, Rao expressed her heartbreak on Instagram, stating, “Our story tonight was left unfinished,” while thanking the audience for their continued support. The festival organizers issued an apology, citing complex logistics and unpredictable operational shifts caused by earlier performances running over schedule.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has strongly condemned the treatment of the National Award-winning singer, calling the incident a “direct insult to her dignity.” The association warned that such disrespect toward artists would not be tolerated and stated they would support Rao should she choose to pursue legal action.
