Shimamura dress remake goes viral for creative upcycling
A social media user, @usapiyo919, has gained attention for transforming a long floral dress purchased from Shimamura into a high-quality Lolita-style mini dress.
Driven by the desire to repurpose a garment that did not fit properly, the creator cut the hem to a 38-centimeter length and utilized the leftover fabric to create ribbons for the chest and waist. To achieve the voluminous silhouette characteristic of Lolita fashion, the creator added gussets to the skirt. The project was completed in a single day, resulting in a design that observers described as “magical” and “idol-like.”
The creator emphasized that the motivation behind the remake was to prevent clothing from being wasted in a closet and to demonstrate that fashion has no fixed rules.
