Shimanami Brewery launches new craft brewing sparkling beverage
Shimanami Brewery, based in Onomichi, Hiroshima, has announced the release of its new product, ‘Shimanami Cho Sour Plain,’ starting August 19, 2026. Unlike traditional sours made from distilled spirits and carbonated water, this beverage utilizes craft beer brewing techniques to create a sparkling drink with a sour profile.
The product is described as having a fermented aroma and natural sweetness reminiscent of sparkling sake. It features an alcohol content of 5.0% and is designed to be versatile; drinking it with ice provides a crisp, refreshing taste, while drinking it without ice allows the acidity to mellow as the temperature rises.
Led by brewer Kazato Matsuoka, the microbrewery focuses on lager-style craft beers. The company previously gained recognition when its ‘Shimanami Cho Lemon Sour’ received the Good Design Award, marking a first for a domestic microbrewery.
