Shimane Prefectural Museum of Art to host Arts and Crafts design exhibition

The Shimane Prefectural Museum of Art will host a special exhibition titled ‘Arts and Crafts and Design: From William Morris to Frank Lloyd Wright’ from September 11 to November 3, 2026. The exhibition features 168 items, including textiles, furniture, books, crafts, and jewelry, tracing the evolution of design from the 19th-century British Arts and Crafts movement to its influence on American modernism.

Key highlights include William Morris’s representative work, ‘Strawberry Thief’. This exhibition marks the first time the design lineage from Morris to American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is presented comprehensively in the San'in region.

Accompanying events will include commemorative lectures, gallery talks by curators, and open studios for pattern design. The museum will also offer themed afternoon tea at its lakeside restaurant, ‘RACINE’, featuring British-style sweets.
