Shimano launches new SPD-SLR pedal and cleat system

Shimano has introduced the SPD-SLR pedal and cleat system, marking a significant update to its road cycling interface after approximately 23 to 24 years. The new system is designed to provide a lower stack height, faster engagement, lighter cleats, and a more direct connection between the shoe and the bike.

A notable change in this redesign is the removal of backwards compatibility with the previous SPD-SL system. This lack of compatibility was highlighted during the Paris-Roubaix race when Mathieu Van Der Poel was unable to clip into a teammate's bike due to the differing pedal systems.

Alongside the new pedals, Shimano has also released updated footwear, including the S-PHYRE RC910 and RC810 shoes, featuring revamped shoe lasts and Dynalast 2.0 technology to improve fit and efficiency.
