Shimano Trail Born restores Olentzero mountain bike trail in Navarra

The Olentzero trail within the Basaburua MTB network in Navarra, Spain, has been reconstructed and redesigned through the Shimano Trail Born program. The trail had previously disappeared following forestry works conducted in 2024.

The renovated route is a 2-kilometer red-difficulty descent featuring a 270-meter negative elevation gain and an average slope of -13.3%. The project utilized prefabricated elements such as jumps, berms, and rock sections to enhance the technical experience. The reconstruction involved over 700 hours of professional labor and approximately 250 hours of volunteer work.

Shimano’s Trail Born initiative is a global program committing $10 million over ten years to support mountain bike trail construction and maintenance. The Olentzero project was among 21 initiatives selected for 2026. The trail was officially inaugurated on June 13 during a Social Ride organized by the Club Deportivo Basaburua MTB.
