Shimizu S-Pulse wins J1 League opener against Nagoya Grampus

Shimizu S-Pulse secured a 1-0 victory against Nagoya Grampus in their opening match of the 2026/27 Meiji Yasuda J1 League season. The match highlighted the development of young players within the squad.

Nineteen-year-old Yudai Shimamoto started the match as a right inside half, a role that differs significantly from his previous position as a left inside half. Despite facing criticism during pre-season training regarding his positional awareness, Shimamoto completed the full match, demonstrating progress in adapting to the tactical requirements of manager Takayuki Yoshida’s 4-3-3 formation.
