Shin Ji-Eun advances to Asian Games beach volleyball knockout stage

South Korean beach volleyball player Shin Ji-Eun has gained significant media attention during the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya after securing a victory in the women's group stage alongside partner Kim Jung-A. The win marks the first time a South Korean women's beach volleyball team has advanced to the knockout tournament in 12 years.

Shin's journey to the international stage has been marked by significant financial and social hardships. Due to a lack of professional teams and corporate sponsorship in South Korea, she previously worked various part-time jobs, including at hamburger shops and cafes, to fund expensive international travel and competition fees. She has also faced criticism regarding her choice of attire, which she maintains is selected for performance and heat management in accordance with the sport's requirements.

In recent years, increased media visibility and social media popularity have helped Shin secure corporate sponsorship, improving her training and travel conditions. She is now set to face a top-tier Chinese pair in the round of 16.
