Shin Tae-yong and Erick Thohir reunite at BRI Super League kick-off

Shin Tae-yong, the former head coach of the Indonesian national team and current manager of Persija Jakarta, has reunited with PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir. The two met during the ceremonial kick-off for the BRI Super League 2026/27 in Jakarta on September 1.

This marks their first public meeting since Shin was dismissed from his position with the national team in January 2025. During the event, the two shared a handshake and an embrace, signaling a reconciliation after a period of tension following his departure.

Shin expressed happiness at seeing Thohir and other familiar figures again, stating that he does not view their relationship as being in a state of conflict. Having led various Indonesian national age-group teams and the senior squad for five years, Shin has now transitioned to club football with Persija Jakarta.
