Shin Tae‑yong appointed Persija Jakarta coach as staff reshuffle looms
South Korean coach Shin Tae‑yong was officially introduced as the new head coach of Persija Jakarta on 21 June 2026. He said, “Being a coach means being ready for pressure; you prepare everything in advance so the pressure does not become overwhelming on match day.” Shin, who led the Indonesian national team for five years, turned down offers from China and Japan to take the Persija job, citing his comfort with the Indonesian environment.
At the same time, former Indonesia national‑team goalkeeper coach Yoo Jae‑hoon ended a three‑month stint with Persijap Jepara. In his farewell statement he said, “Although it was only three short months, the time I spent with Persijap was a very happy experience.” His departure has fueled speculation that he may join Shin’s coaching staff at Persija, as Shin has indicated he will bring assistants he previously worked with on the national team.
The appointments are expected to boost Persija’s ambitions to reclaim the Super League title next season.
