Persija Jakarta Set to Appoint Shin Tae‑yong as New Head Coach

Persija Jakarta has ended its contract with Brazilian coach Mauricio Souza after the team fell short of its title target. The club announced that it will reveal its new head coach on 8 June 2026 via a live broadcast from Jakarta International Stadium.

South Korean coach Shin Tae‑yong, former manager of the Indonesian national team, is the frontrunner. Media reports cite a salary of about US$1.5 million per year (roughly Rp27 billion), with the total compensation package potentially reaching Rp35‑40 billion when bonuses and benefits are included. Persija’s existing sponsorship by Hyundai may help fund the deal.

Supporters have been vocal on social media, and the club highlighted that several current players – including Rizky Ridho, Witan Sulaeman, Jordi Amat and Dony Tri Pamungkas – previously worked under Shin, which could smooth the transition. The appointment is expected to boost ticket sales, merchandise, and overall club performance in the upcoming Liga 1 season.
